Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles occur because of a breakdown in the skin's natural support layers due to factors such as pollution, over exposure to the sun and smoking, as well as the bodies natural aging process. But now it is possible for both men and women to improve their overall appearance and obtain a fresher, brighter look.

What is botox?

Botox is botulinum toxin - a chemical produced by bacteria which relaxes muscles and has been used by the medical profession for many years for conditions associated with muscle spasm. More recently it was realised that some cosmetic problems are caused by overactive muscles in the face and can be helped by Botox.

What sort of problems?

The main four are:
1. Lines across the forehead
2. frown lines above the nose
3. crows feet to the sides of the eyes
4. Botox can also be very effective in the treatment of excessive sweating in the armpits.

What does the treatment entail?

You would have an examination at the clinic to check that your lines are suitable, and a history taken to make sure that this is a suitable treatment for you.  If all is well then very small amounts of botox would be injected around the lines using ultra thin needles. The doctor and nurse at the clinic both carry out these injections.  You should notice the results within one or two weeks.

Why might i not be able to have treatment?

Some lines are permanent, ie they are creases in the skin rather than lines caused by your expression. Some of these are softened by Botox but are usually best treated with filler.  Some drugs such as blood thinning medication may make the injections more likely to bruise.

What side effects are there?

Occasionally small bruises appear around the injection site. There is a very low possibility with some injections of a droopy eye area. This is very unusual and settles quickly.

How often do i need it?

It really depends on how strong your facial expression is but most people return every 4-6 months.  There is a tendency for the muscles to weaken with time so the interval usually becomes longer .There is no evidence at all that it makes the problem any worse if you stop having treatment.

What does it cost?

This depends on how many areas are treated but ranges from £180 - £300.
